Curious? Here’s what it’s like to work together.
Here are answers to the most common questions I get, from what the process looks like to whether your story is “big enough” (spoiler: it is).
Whether you're just starting to explore the idea of telling your story or you've been thinking about it for years, this page is here to help. I've laid out what the process looks like, what you can expect from me, and a few reassuring truths (like: you don't need to be a writer, and yes, your story matters).

In Her Words Project is a memoir and legacy writing service designed to help women, especially those in their third act, tell their life stories. Whether it’s a full memoir, a legacy portrait for your family, or a short collection of memories, I’ll help you turn your lived experience into words you can be proud of.
-
I work primarily with women in their 60s and beyond, women with rich, layered lives who want to reflect, share, and leave something meaningful behind. If that sounds like you, we’re likely a great fit.
-
Not at all. Your story doesn’t need to be dramatic to be worth telling. What matters is that it’s yours. Every woman has lived through moments of joy, loss, growth, love, and change. And those moments are more than enough.
-
That’s exactly what I’m here for. You don’t need a single word written or a timeline figured out. I’ll guide you through every step of the process, starting with a simple conversation.

Not at all. That’s my job. You just need to talk; I’ll do the writing for you.

It depends on the scope of the project. Shorter memory booklets can take a few weeks, while full memoirs may take several months. We’ll move at a pace that works for you.
-
My services are customized based on the length and complexity of your project. You’ll find general pricing on the services page, or we can discuss options during your free consultation.

Yes. For shorter projects like memory booklets or legacy portraits, payment is split into two parts: 50% up front and 50% upon completion.
For full memoirs, I offer quarterly installment plans—or we can work out a custom payment schedule that feels manageable for you. I want this to be a meaningful and stress-free process from start to finish.
-
That’s part of the process. You’ll have several opportunities to review drafts and suggest edits. Your story should sound like you, and I’ll work closely with you to make sure it feels right before it’s finalized.
-
Absolutely, and what a beautiful gift it is. Many clients commission memoirs or legacy portraits for parents, grandparents, or loved ones. I can work directly with them (with your involvement as needed) to make the process easy, comfortable, and meaningful for everyone.
-
Yes. Most clients receive a professionally formatted digital file, but I can also help you explore custom printing options, whether you want a few beautifully bound copies for family or a small run of books to share more widely.
-
That’s entirely up to you. Some clients keep it private, as a personal reflection or gift to family. Others share it with children, grandchildren, or even publish it for a wider audience. No matter your goals, I’ll help you create something you’re proud to share, or treasure quietly.
